Expertise & Care by Dr Sri | Placenta Clinics at My Gynae Plus
Placenta Accreta Spectrum (PAS) is a serious pregnancy condition where the placenta attaches too deeply into the uterine wall. In some cases, it may invade surrounding organs such as the bladder. Early detection and specialist care are key to improving outcomes.
What is PAS?
PAS includes three types:
- Placenta accreta: placenta attaches too deeply to the uterus
- Placenta increta: placenta invades the uterine muscle
- Placenta percreta: placenta grows through the uterus and may reach other organs
Who is at Risk?
• Previous caesarean sections
• Placenta previa (low-lying placenta)
• Multiple uterine surgeries
• IVF or uterine abnormalities
Symptoms & Diagnosis
Most women do not have symptoms. PAS is usually detected during routine or targeted ultrasound scans. Specialist imaging, including colour Doppler and MRI, may be used for accurate diagnosis.
